Plastic poultry floor grating 120 × 50 cm – mesh opening 16 × 16 mm
Our plastic poultry floor gratings offer a practical, hygienic and durable solution for chickens, ducks, pheasants, partridges, quails and other poultry. They are suitable for poultry houses, rearing areas, aviaries and outdoor runs, as well as beneath perches and around feeders and drinkers.
The gratings are made from strong polypropylene (PP) and measure 120 × 50 cm.
Smaller openings for better foot support
The gratings have clear mesh openings of approximately 16 × 16 mm. These openings are smaller than those of many traditional poultry gratings. Approximately 7.5 mm of material separates the openings, creating a relatively broad walking surface that supports the birds’ feet.
The surface is lightly textured. This provides extra grip and helps prevent slipping.
The relatively small openings also make the grating suitable for smaller poultry species and, depending on their size, young birds.
Strong polypropylene with high UV protection
The gratings are made from 100% virgin polypropylene (PP) in anthracite. No recycled plastic is used.
A high level of UV stabiliser is added to the material. This protects the plastic against sunlight, weathering and discolouration.
The combination of virgin PP and high UV protection produces a strong, durable grating for long-term indoor and outdoor use.
A cleaner, drier living environment
Droppings, moisture, spilled feed and other dirt can pass through the openings. This reduces direct contact with soiled or damp ground, manure and mud.
The walking surface stays cleaner for longer. Droppings and dirt beneath the gratings must still be removed regularly to keep the enclosure hygienic.
Main benefits
- Supportive walking surface thanks to the relatively small mesh openings of approximately 16 × 16 mm.
- Extra grip from the lightly textured surface.
- Less contact with droppings, moisture and mud.
- Less soiling around feeders and drinkers.
- Easy to clean, for example with water or a pressure washer.
- Durable material: made from 100% virgin polypropylene.
- High UV protection for long-term indoor and outdoor use.
- Easy to cut to size with a handsaw.
A wide range of applications
In poultry houses
The floor of a poultry house can be covered entirely or partly with gratings. Droppings, moisture and dirt can pass through the openings, keeping the walking surface cleaner and drier.
Beneath perches
The gratings can be placed above a droppings tray or manure collection area. This separates the collection area from the walking surface and reduces direct contact with droppings.
Around feeders and drinkers
Areas around feeders and drinkers often become particularly dirty. Spilled water and feed can pass through the grating, helping to keep the surroundings cleaner and drier.
Bedding is also less likely to enter feeders and drinkers, and birds have less access to feed spilled onto the ground underneath.
In outdoor enclosures, aviaries and runs
Rain and intensive use can make the ground in outdoor enclosures muddy. A raised grating floor keeps birds above the ground and reduces contact with droppings and mud.
The high UV protection makes the gratings suitable for long-term outdoor use.
When rearing young birds
Depending on the species and size of the birds, the gratings can also be used for young stock.
For very young birds, we recommend temporarily covering the gratings with suitable fine plastic mesh. This creates a finer walking surface. Once the birds are large enough, the mesh can be removed.
Easy installation with PVC support profiles
The long sides of the gratings feature special connections and notches. These allow the gratings to fit neatly together and rest on support profiles.
For installation, we recommend our PVC support profiles. Position them level on firm ground or, for example, on bricks, spaced 50 cm apart. Then place the gratings on the profiles.
The PVC support profiles are available in the following standard lengths:
- 120 cm — article number PS-SUP120
- 240 cm — article number PS-SUP240
Lengths of 300 and 600 cm are available to order. Please allow for potentially significantly higher transport costs for these longer profiles.
Both the gratings and the PVC profiles can easily be cut to size with a handsaw, allowing you to adapt the system to the dimensions of your enclosure.
Points to consider
Large poultry species
The mesh openings of approximately 16 × 16 mm provide relatively broad support for the feet. However, droppings from very large chickens and other large poultry species may be too large to pass easily through the openings.
When choosing a grating, consider the species and size of the birds that will use it.
Very young birds
Young birds with relatively long or thin legs may get a hock caught in an opening. This risk may be greater if the bird wears a leg ring.
For very young birds, temporarily cover the gratings with suitable fine plastic mesh until they are large enough to walk directly on the grating.
